Together with fellow photographer Kerstin Braun, Andreas Gefeller travelled throughout the Ukraine in 1996, ten years after the nuclear catastrophe of Tschernobyl.
Aim of this journey was to photographically record the effects of this worst case scenario and the remaining traces of radioactive contamination without making use of common clichés, as were propagated by the media at the time. In the resulting work »Halbwertszeiten« (half-life), radioactivity becomes almost visible, not least on account of the bright and irradiating colors.
I miss long sleeves.
